With early funding from California's Oakland-based stem cell research funding agency for its academic founders, the Stanford University spinout is tapping the CRISPR gene-editing technology out of UC Berkeley to push an experimental gene therapy for sickle cell disease into an early-stage clinical trial and pursue fixes for rare genetic diseases.
