Researchers find cellular evidence behind lasting immune response in some cancer survivors

(Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center) A durable response to immunotherapy involves functional immune system cells called T cells entering a tumor. Researchers at Dartmouth's and Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Norris Cotton Cancer Center have discovered that a subset of T cells, called resident memory T cells, in patients with melanoma also enters skin and blood, working there for years after the tumor is gone. No prior study has demonstrated cellular evidence of such long-lived immunity to cancer.
