Aging cells in abdominal fluid cause increased peritoneal dissemination of gastric cancer

(Kumamoto University) Through an analysis of cell fractions from malignant ascites, cellular senescence of cancer-associated fibroblasts (CAFs) has been found to be important in the progression of gastric cancer peritoneal dissemination foci. This understanding should enable the development of new treatments for peritoneal cancer dissemination by targeting cancer cells at dissemination sites and CAFs in patients with peritoneal dissemination.
