Cardiometabolic disease: Mechanisms to therapies

The world is witnessing the escalating spread of cardiometabolic diseases around the globe [1]. A longstanding challenge in high-income countries, this scourge now touches low-to-middle income countries. In 2005, 33% of the world's adult population (1.3  billion people) was overweight or obese. If the current trend continues, it is estimated that by 2030 nearly 60% of the world's adult population – more than 3 billion people – will be either overweight or obese [1]. Without question, these developments represent a global crisis that needs t o be urgently curbed.
