Basic types of the first-day glycemia in acute myocardial infarction: Prognostic, diagnostic, threshold and target glycemia

The importance of stress hyperglycemia (SH) in critical illnesses (including acute myocardial infarction (AMI)) has been increasingly recognized. This importance stems from the significance of AMI itself, as the major global cause of death [1]; and importance of other critical illnesses, including acute heart failure (AHF) and pulmonary thromboembolism (PTE) [2]; from the significance of glucose, as a very important (basic) fuel for many organs and tissues; from the high prevalence of SH in AMI [3]; from recognized prognosticator capabilities of glycemia; and from the possibility to treat glycemic abnormalities acutely and chronically.
