Computational models of cardiovascular regulatory mechanisms

Cardiovascular biology has a rich history of developing and using mathematical models dating to the first systems model of the cardiac action potential published in 1960 by Denis Noble in Nature. This early work set the stage for a rich array of mathematical and numerical models during the ensuing 60  years of cardiac and vascular biology at the molecular, cellular, tissue, organ and system scales. The next decade will see the first multi-scale computational models of cardiovascular physiology and biophysics that bridge all of these scales and predict system level phenotypes of specific pharma cological treatments, genetic defects or post-translational modifications.
