Optimized method for in vivo dosimetry with small films in pelvic IOERT for rectal cancer

Intra-Operative Electron Radiation Therapy (IOERT) uses high energy electron beams during a surgical intervention, to deliver a high radiation dose to the tumour while healthy structures are moved away from the beam [1,2]. Treatment planning for IOERT is limited to manual calculations based on data acquired in reference conditions [2]. The radiation oncologist chooses the applicator (diameter and bevel angle) best suited to the anatomy of the irradiated area, and the electron energy depending on the thickness to be irradiated.
