Genital tuberculosis screening at an academic fertility center in the United States

We read with great interest the article published by Tal et  al1 which aimed to determine the prevalence of female genital tuberculosis (FGTB) among infertile patients presenting to an academic fertility center. In their prospective cohort study, the authors found that a higher proportion of patients with positive QuantiFERON Gold test were foreign born and had recurrent pregnancy loss and Asherman syndrome compared with those who had a negative test. They concluded that multiple diagnostic modalities including endometrial sampling are required to diagnose FGTB in infertile patients, and they recommend screening of all at-risk infertile patients for l atent tuberculosis (TB) and subsequent confirmation of FGTB with endometrial sampling in those screened positive.
