We appreciate Dr. Pun's interest in ibuprofen's capacity for acute mountain sickness prevention.1 There has been concern that ibuprofen may prevent headache only through analgesia rather than treating the disease entity itself. However, multiple trials have reported no significant difference in headache incidence or severity compared with acetazolamide.1-3 At the anti-inflammatory 600-mg ibuprofen dose, we theorize that the medication functions similarly to dexamethasone through cyclo-oxygenase inhibition.
