Anti-inflammatory Potential of Maternal Diet During Pregnancy: A Promise to Promote the Mental Health of Children
Mental disorders are the leading cause of disability in young people and constitute a major public health concern worldwide. A growing body of evidence indicates that the neurodevelopmental trajectory, which determines future mental health and disease, is largely shaped during the prenatal period of life (1). A constellation of health conditions during pregnancy, such as obesity, diabetes and hypertensive disorders, and depression (referred to collectively here as prenatal environmental adversities), has been linked to a wide range of adverse neurodevelopmental and mental health outcomes in children (2).
