Timing of Intervention for Post-Hemorrhagic Ventricular Dilatation: An Ongoing Debate

In this volume of The Journal , Lai et al1 report their meta-analysis of past studies examining the timing of initiation of temporizing neurosurgical procedures (TNP) and rates of ventriculo-peritoneal shunting (VPS) and neurodevelopmental impairment (NDI) in premature infants with post-hemorrhagic ventricular dilatation (PHVD). In this analysis, TNPs included lumbar punctures (LP), ventricular taps, insertion of a ventricular access device (VAD), ventriculo-subgaleal shunt, external ventricular drain, and neuroendoscopic lavage (NEL).
