Cardiac resynchronization therapy with- or without defibrillator. Estimating the risk of arrhythmic death or assessing the likelihood of non-arrhythmic mortality?

Cardiac resynchronization therapy (CRT) became the standard of care for heart failure patients with broad QRS complex ( ≥130 ms) and reduced left ventricular function (LVEF≤35%). However, it is not easy to decide which patients will need defibrillator back-up with CRT (CRT-D) or should just receive a biventricular pacing device without ICD (CRT-P). [1,2]
