Socioeconomic disparities affect children ’s amygdala-prefrontal circuitry via stress hormone response
The socioeconomic status (SES) of a family can affect almost all aspects of a child ’s life, including current and future achievement, and health. The potential adverse effects of low-SES on children’s emotional development are thought to result from proximal factors such as stress. The underlying neurobiological mechanisms, however, remain elusive.
