Peripartum Cardiomyopathy and Pregnancy-Associated Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction: More Similar Than Different

It is an ugly truth that the United States has the highest maternal mortality rate among developed countries.1 Indeed, at 17.4 maternal deaths per 100,000 live births, maternal mortality is twice as high in the U.S. as in any other developed country.1 Even worse, the maternal mortality is rising in the U.S., whereas it is stable or declining in most other countries – including developing countries. According to the World Health Organization, maternal mortality worldwide dropped by 38% from 2000-2017, but increased by 58% in the U.S.
