ConclusionsIntestinal injury in experimental NEC leads to a systemic inflammatory response affecting the liver. Hepatic oxidative injury in NEC is characterized by decreased mitochondria and mtDNA depletion. This study provides insight into the mechanism of liver injury in NEC.
