Optimal timing of cervical cerclage removal following preterm premature rupture of membranes; a retrospective analysis

Preterm birth, defined as delivery before 37 weeks ’ gestation, is a major cause of neonatal morbidity and mortality; with up to a third of all neonatal deaths occurring as a direct result of prematurity [1]. Preterm infants who survive past early childhood have higher rates of long-term health complications, including neurological, respiratory an d developmental disabilities [2]. Current preventative management of women at high risk of preterm delivery includes the use of a cervical cerclage to provide mechanical support to the cervix and its mucus plug during pregnancy.
