Relationship between diabetic retinopathy microalbuminuria and other modifiable risk factors
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a rapidly evolving global pandemic with Asia being its epicentre [1]. Hyperglycemia affects the entire vascular tree giving rise to both macrovascular and microvascular complications that increase both morbidity and mortality associated with diabetes. Diabetic Retinopathy (DR) is an important microvascular complication affecting the retina leading to irreversible blindness among working age individuals around the world [2]. However, the prevalence of DR has been reported to be lower in Asians compared to their western counterparts [3].
