Comment on: Use of Noninvasive Scores for Advanced Liver Fibrosis Can Guide the Need for Hepatic Biopsy During Bariatric Procedures

The authors of this interesting study review their findings of routine liver biopsy in 2,465 patients who underwent bariatric surgery during a 17-year span in attempt to answer two important questions: firstly, to confirm the prevalence of advanced fibrosis (F3 and F4), which they found was 3.4%. And secondly, to assess effectiveness of using non-invasive risk calculators to direct use of routine or conversely, selective liver biopsies.
