Most recently during the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and throughout history there are examples of extraordinary circumstances during which nurses have been called upon to go “above and beyond” our usual duties. Such reliance on nurses is logical – we have skills and knowledge that benefit society and the demand for nursing increases during a health emergency.
