Female Surgeon Scientists

We thank Dr Kibbe for her comments regarding our recent manuscript, “The changing face of academic surgery: Overrepresentation of women among surgeon-scientists with R01 funding.”1 In our study, we compare the percentage of female surgeon-scientists with R01 funding (26%) to the percentage of female academic surgical faculty (19%), as reported in the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) report, “The pipeline and pathways to leadership, 2015-2016.”2 Dr Kibbe brings attention to the more recent AAMC report, “The state of women in academic medicine 2018-2019,” which was published after our article was submitted for publication.
