Association of Severe Lymphopenia and Disease Progression in Unresectable Locally Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer Treated with Definitive Chemoradiation and Immunotherapy
The immune system plays a crucial role in cancer surveillance and anti-tumor activity. Lymphocytes are integral in the immune tumor response, assisting in adaptive and immune responses and direct destruction of tumor cells [1 –3]. Additionally, immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) that block programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1), programmed death 1 (PD-1), or cytotoxic t-lymphocyte-associated protein 4 (CTLA-4) receptors have been utilized to upregulate T-cell activity and improve tumor cell killing [4–6].
