It is characterized by oligo or anovulation, hyperandrogenism and/or polycystic ovaries, but also by an increased insulin plasma level especially in overweight/obese women or in those with familial diabetes. In the last years, among the insulin sensitizers, the use of the two active isoforms of inositols (myo-inositol and d-chiro-inositol) has been spreading for the treatment of PCOS insulin resistance. Several studies ...

Eur Rev Med Pharmacol Sci. 2021 Jul;25(14):4757-4761. doi: 10.26355/eurrev_202107_26387.ABSTRACTMetformin is the most commonly prescribed drug for the treatment of type 2 diabetes mellitus. In addition to its ability to lower glucose levels, it has recently been reported to be potentially useful for the treatment of other conditions because of its anticancer activity, cardiovascular protective effect, neuroprotective effect, and efficacy in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome. However, long-term use of metformin may lead to side-effects such as memory impairment. Here, we critically review the effect of metformin on...

Appetite. 2021 Jul 26:105612. doi: 10.1016/j.appet.2021.105612. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTDisease labels and causal explanations for certain symptoms or conditions have been found to have both positive and negative outcomes. For example, a diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome could conceivably motivate a person to engage in weight management, which is the recommended first line treatment. Furthermore, doctors may feel more comfortable discussing weight when linked to a medical condition. However, such a diagnosis may elicit feelings of increased anxiety, perceived severity and reduced sense of control. Mixed findings...
