Experiences of Scope of Practice of the Taiwanese Nurse Practitioner

In Taiwan, nurse practitioner (NP) scope of practice regulations were enacted in 2016, but limited information exists about how NPs view their scope of practice. The aim of this study was to gain an understanding of NPs ’ perspectives on their scope of practice. A qualitative phenomenographic approach was applied. Thirty Taiwanese NPs were interviewed. Five themes emerged related to the NP experience of their scope of practice: assisting with medical administrative work, performing daily routine care, engaging in interprofessional collaboration, practicing nursing autonomy, and demonstrating advanced care in nursing.
