Portland ’s newest footwear company started the year with a bang. BALA Footwear opened its online sales portal last Monday. Within an hour, it had sold 2,000 pairs of shoes. The company makes footwear for nurses. "Our mission is to do something meaningful for nurses," said co-founder Brian Lockard.
