Quiet on the Set! Astroglia Star in Silent Synaptogenesis and Cocaine Memory Formation

Once thought to simply be supporting cast for the brain ’s A-list actors (neurons), astroglia have established a starring role in brain function typified by their ability to actively respond to and regulate neuronal activity and synaptic transmission. One of the more daunting tasks of modern neuroscience has been unraveling the functional interplay bet ween neurons and non-neuronal cells as it relates to normal processes like learning and memory as well as pathological, maladaptive learning like addiction.
