Is in vitro fertilization the answer in polycystic ovary syndrome?
After several cycles of unsuccessful clomiphene citrate induction, offering in vitro fertilization (IVF) to patients with infertility related to polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is standard practice. With the rising rates of IVF success in many cases of unexplained infertility, the costs—monetary or otherwise—of IVF are accepted by both patients and health care providers . However, even with carefully standardized protocols, we still often find that PCOS patients with an especially high body mass index (BMI) struggle with achieving clinical pregnancy and have lower live-birth rates (1).
