Dorothy Beckett to Direct BBCB Division

I’m pleased to announce that Dorothy Beckett will join NIGMS on January 19 as the new director of our Division of Biophysics, Biomedical Technology, and Computational Biosciences (BBCB). Dorothy is a molecular biophysicist with extensive expertise in the field. She is a leader in the scientific community and a proponent of expanding opportunities for women and underrepresented groups in science. Dorothy is currently a professor in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry at the University of Maryland, College Park (UMCP), where her research focuses on the physical chemistry of protein function and its function in regulatory biology. Prior to joining UMCP in 1999, Dorothy was an associate professor of chemistry and biochemistry at the university’s Baltimore County campus. She has held a number of leadership positions, including serving as president of the Biophysical Society from 2014 to 2015. Dorothy’s wealth of knowledge and expertise, as well as her experience in effectively engaging with the scientific community and key stakeholder groups, make her an ideal choice for this position within our senior leadership team. For more about Dorothy, see our news announcement. Please join me in welcoming her to NIGMS.
