Anesthetic Management for Atrial Fibrillation Ablation: A National Anesthesia Clinical Outcomes Registry Analysis
Atrial fibrillation is the most common sustained cardiac arrhythmia in the United States (US).1 Atrial fibrillation ablation (AFA) procedures have proven to be superior to antiarrhythmic drug therapy.2 –4 Indeed, ablatory procedures significantly decrease arrhythmia-induced symptoms, improve exercise tolerance, arrhythmia-free intervals, and improve quality of life.3,4 A recent meta-analysis, comparing AFA versus medical therapy, reported that patients who underwent ablation had lower risk of ca rdiac hospitalization and recurrent atrial arrhythmias than those who received medical therapy.
