Integrating Public Health Ethics into Shared Decision Making for Children During the Novel Coronavirus Disease-19 Pandemic

Pediatricians often serve as interpreters and mediators of health guidelines when discussing vaccines, health screening, and lifestyle choices with parents of our patients. Outside of public health emergencies, these discussions nearly exclusively focus on optimizing the health of the individual child and a focus on family preferences. However, in the current pandemic, nearly everyone has experienced limitations of personal activities for the population health goal of curbing the spread of the novel coronavirus disease-2019 (COVID-19).
