Commentary: PCI vs CABG in Patients With CKD —Which is Best?

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is the leading cause of morbidity and mortality in patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD). The optimal revascularization strategy for patients with CKD is unknown. Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) with drug eluting stents results in decreased periprocedural mortality, but is associated with increased restenosis and less freedom from long-term major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE). Coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery reduces the need for a re-revascularization procedure, but is associated with increased perioperative morbidity and mortality.
