Variation between general practitioners in type 2 diabetes processes of care
Type 2 diabetes is a complex disease placing high demands on both patients and health care professionals. General practitioners are supposed to counsel patients in self-management and lifestyle modifications, monitor risk factors, screen for and treat complications, pursue individualized treatment targets and manage medications for hyperglycemia, hypertension and hyperlipidemia. A gap in the quality between the recommended and actual care for type 2 diabetes patients is well documented [1,2], as well as variations in quality within provider levels, regions and countries [3 –9].
