Contemporary Use of Veno-Arterial ECMO: Insights from the Multi-Center RESCUE Registry
Mechanical circulatory support (MCS) devices are being increasingly utilized in the management of circulatory failure, growing 15-fold in the years between 2007 and 20111. For cardiogenic shock specifically, MCS was employed in approximately 23% of cases in 20142 and 34% of cases in 20193. Use of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO), in particular, has quadrupled in the last decade4.
