Osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative joint disease that causes reduction in functional ability and is one of the most common diseases in the older population [1]. It is usually characterized by a progressive breakdown of articular cartilage and remodelling of the underlying bone in the synovial joints and is most common in the knees, hips, spine and fingers [2].
