The evolution of the field of pediatric kidney transplantation over the last 25 years has been associated with improved allograft function and reduced acute rejection rates [1,2]. Unfortunately, the long term survival is still suboptimal. Chronic allograft nephropathy (CAN) and long term cardiovascular (CV) problems are the most important causes of morbidity and mortality among pediatric and adult transplant recipients [3,4].
