Prognostic significance of cardiac troponin level in Covid-19 patients without known cardiovascular risk factors

The coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) is an ongoing global pandemic caused by the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2). The SARS-CoV-2 primarily infects the lung epithelial cells via angiotensin-converting enzyme-2 (ACE-2) receptor [1], thereby causing respiratory signs and symptoms. Meanwhile, since ACE-2 is highly expressed in the cardiac myocytes, it is observed that the SARS-CoV-2 can also cause cardiac injury [2,3], thereby leading poor outcomes in Covid-19 cases. However, there is a very limited data about whether admission cardiac troponin levels are associated with a poor survival in Covid-19 cases without cardiovascular risk factors.
