Chronic kidney disease prevalence and cardiovascular risk in a cohort of patients with type 2 diabetes followed for 10 years in Badajoz (Spain). An observational study

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) represents the most frequent form of diabetes (90 –95% of cases) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of its most common and devastating complications. CKD and T2DM are highly prevalent chronic diseases that represent a significant public health problem and require multidisciplinary management. Patients with T2DM and CKD are a special risk gro up as they have higher morbidity and mortality and are at a higher risk of hypoglycaemia than individuals with diabetes and normal renal function [1,2].
