Reply to “Painless chronic pancreatitis with pancreatic duct stones”

We read with interest the letter from Liping Duan and colleagues entitled "Chronic pancreatitis with pancreatic duct stones", regarding a possible operative approach in patients with painless chronic pancreatitis. Interestingly, the Authors confirm the frequency of painless pancreatitis (around 10% of chronic pancreatitis) and the epidemiological characteristics of these patients observed in our paper. However, they suggest to treat patients with painless chronic pancreatitis and intraductal stones by operative endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography (ERCP) and /or extracorporeal shockwave lithotripsy (ESWL).
