Necessity Is the Mother of Innovation

In May 2020 the President of the American Society of PeriAnesthesia Nurses reached out to create a strategic work team (SWT) to address innovative practices in perianesthesia services. I am always humbled at the opportunities provided to me to serve our professional specialty in a wide variety of ways. However, innovation was not at the top of my list of achievements, or so I thought. Elizabeth Card, ASPAN President 2020 to 2021, detailed the purpose of establishing an Innovation SWT, which included exploring the role innovation plays related to implementing evidence-based practice nursing strategies in the perianesthesia setting.
