Posttraumatic Confusional State: Delirium by Another Name

The diagnostic criteria for posttraumatic confusional state (PTCS) by Sherer et  al represent the culmination of several years’ work.1 We admire the authors’ detailed analysis and share their desire for enhanced conceptual precision. This work parallels recent efforts aimed at describing,2 clarifying,3 and integrating4 nomenclature of acute neurocognitive disorders. Yet, w e cannot help but notice the resemblance of PTCS to that of delirium: the resemblance is so uncanny that we conclude that PTCS is an alias for delirium (table 1).
