The Rising Tide of Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: How Much Time Until the Flood Reaches Our Coast?

We read with interest the recent publication by Yanoussi et  al,1 which focused on the changing trends in liver transplantation (LT) indications in the American Registry of Transplant Recipients over the past 2 decades. Yanoussi et al1 reported that nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) has rapidly become the second indication for LT in the United States and the leading indication for LT in women with end-stage liver disease without hepatocellular carcinoma.
