Paradigm shifts to improve treatment in youth with type 2 diabetes
The increased prevalence of Type 2 Diabetes (T2DM) in youth has prompted a paradigm shift in the approach of the pediatric diabetes nurse provider. Efforts are needed to identify and treat comorbidities, prevent subsequent complications, improve nutritional and lifestyle habits, and address the psychological and socioeconomic factors that confound treatment. Medication beyond insulin therapy is now offered for youth, giving hope for improved outcomes.
