The Utility of Perforated Appendix Rate as a Proxy for Timely Access to Care

To the Editor We read with great interest the article by Golz et al regarding the association of acute appendicitis and socioeconomic status. The authors present compelling data about geospatial incidence of appendicitis (perforated and nonperforated) by both insurance and socioeconomic status. However, their discussion of these data risks inappropriately discounts the utility of perforated appendix rate as a measure of timely access to care.
