Assessing Alternative Payment Models

To the Editor Dr Navathe and colleagues suggested that alternative payment models have played a key role in slowing the growth of US health care spending despite evidence indicating they have limited effect. They posited that the true effect of alternative payment models has been underestimated in individual evaluations because these models have been compared with a declining spending baseline.
