UNISON welcomes better health and safety protection for zero-hours workers

UNISON has welcomed a High Court ruling that zero-hours contract workers should enjoy better protection at work. The union’s national health and safety officer Robert Baughan commented: “We are pleased that the courts have ruled that zero-hours workers must enjoy the same health and safety protection as any other workers, and we look forward to the government providing the health and safety regulators with the resources to enforce this judgement.” Mr Baughan added: “Many of these workers, particularly those working in care homes and providing home care, have been at the frontline of the battle against COVID-19. It is only right that these workers should be treated with the same dignity as others. “UNISON will be monitoring the activities of the government, its regulators and care providers to ensure this ruling is upheld.” UNISON’s guide on the safety of gig economy workers   The article UNISON welcomes better health and safety protection for zero-hours workers first appeared on the UNISON National site.
