New Statin Use and Mortality in Older Veterans

To the Editor The article by Dr Orkaby and colleagues reported a significantly lower risk of all-cause mortality associated with statin use among US veterans at least 75 years old who were free of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease at baseline. Although formal sensitivity analyses were not performed to estimate potential bias due to unmeasured baseline characteristics, propensity scores were used to achieve balance in measured baseline characteristics. Furthermore, their use of a new-user design addressed the concern for prevalent-user bias.
