The cost of liver function tests for terbinafine: an unnecessary expense.

DISCUSSION: There is a high annual cost of LFTs for patients on terbinafine. As routine LFTs have minimal benefit for detecting DILI3 this cost is a considerable unnecessary expenditure. A limitation of this study is the small sample size in the NAMCS. An analysis of previous years of the NAMCS was not possible due to lack of documentation of LFTs prior to 2014.
