Deprescribing Antihypertensive Medication in Elderly Adults —Reply

In Reply We agree with Dr Applegate and colleagues that antihypertensive deprescribing in patients aged 80 years or older should be based on robust scientific evidence. At present there are few studies examining this question, hence the rationale for doing this trial. A recent Cochrane review of studies examining the effects of antihypertensive withdrawal identified just 6 trials enrolling a total of 1073 participants, meaning that our study alone would increase this sample by more than 50%.
