Applying Antiracist Concepts to Clinical Practice

The recent civic unrest sweeping the United States has catalyzed a long overdue reckoning with structural racism and the many legacies of White supremacy. A renewed sense of urgency has compelled medical institutions to confront an entrenched history of medical racism and its contemporary contributions to racialized health care disparities. Within psychiatry, medical racism has shaped every dimension of practice, driving racial disparities in access to care, quality of care, and diagnostic and treatment plans as well as the capacity to recruit and retain a racially diverse workforce.
