Taking the itch out of cancer immunotherapy

(University of Tsukuba) Researchers from the University of Tsukuba have determined that PD-1 expression on CD8 T cells is the biological pathway that leads to psoriasis-like dermatitis, an unfavorable side effect of cancer immunotherapy with PD-1 inhibitors. This finding offers hope that blocking this pathway can prevent or reduce the undesirable side effect and help cancer patients continue their treatment with improved quality-of-life.
