Identifying the required degree of disease clearance to improve quality of life in pemphigus vulgaris.

Identifying the required degree of disease clearance to improve quality of life in pemphigus vulgaris. Br J Dermatol. 2020 Oct 22;: Authors: Bax CE, Ravishankar A, Yan D, Concha J, Kushner CJ, Zamalin D, Feng R, Payne AS, Werth VP Abstract With the increase in pemphigus vulgaris (PV) clinical trials and treatments, it is imperative to establish validated outcome measures. Although prior studies have shown that quality of life (QoL) improves when disease severity decreases, it is unknown whether partial clearance (e.g. in dermatomyositis or systemic lupus erythematosus) or complete clearance (e.g. in psoriasis) is necessary to achieve maximal QoL. For PV, we seek to identify whether there is a specific cut-off point at which further improvement in disease activity does not improve QoL, or whether complete skin clearance is required to achieve meaningful QoL.
